Next performance: Final exam in composition on Monday 2 June 2008 at Utrecht Conservatory, Netherlands
Approximate duration: 5.5 to 6 minutes
Dedication: to the loving memory of Ayyub Malik, architect, ceramicist, and thinker
in the programme notes
When I learned of the death of a dear friend in early January 2008, I was overcome by
many emotions: shock, denial, disbelief, confusion, numbness, sadness, regret, anger, and
grief. The melody and harmonies took on a new meaning during this period of mourning.
What words could not express in my online obituary, I tried to weave into the texture and
dynamics. It is my hope to get this piece performed in a forthcoming memorial tribute in
London where my friend had spent most of his life.
Second performance on 15 February 2008, at Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh Kerk in Utrecht by Dennis Kersten and Boy Griffoen
Duration: 6'52" including applause
MP3 file size: 15.7 MB
PLEASE NOTE: as at 29 Jan 2008 I have made it a fuller sound....no bar changes, except time signature of second to last bar is 5/4. Note the dynamic additions and notes.
