"Piano and guitar, a combination that will be received as a surprise rather than a familiarity!"

Guitarist Robert Bekkers and pianist Anne Ku will perform on Friday April 2nd 2004 in the Mustard Seed. Caught by the unique blend of sounds of piano and guitar they have found almost all published work in existence. So rare is the combination that Haarlem-based Dutch guitarist Erik Otte dedicated an entirely new piece to them!

The concert will debut Erik Otte's four movement "Suite de la Rio Plata" about lost and found love, which employs sweeping South-American rhythms and lyrical melodic phrases.

Leading guitar composers like Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Manuel M. Ponce and Federico Moreno-Torroba have written music for piano and guitar.

The duo pieces selected for this concert contain Spanish elements, passion, grace, South-American folk music, sometimes a dance, sometimes religious, changes of tempo and mood and a wealth of virtuoso passages. Altogether chamber music at its best!

Robert Bekkers studied at the Conservatory of Maastricht. He has published his own compositions and arrangements for guitar, guitar-violin, and other instruments. He teaches at the music school at Hoofddorp and is found on concert stages on regular basis. Anne Ku studied at Duke University and now studies composition at the "Hogeschool voor de Kunsten" of Utrecht.

The collaboration of Robert and Anne started about two years ago and the perform internationally. Last year they gave a performance and master classes at the Eastern Mediterranean University in North Cyprus. They will record their first CD soon.
